Technology issues

i am having issues with some friends and their belief that technology will be the downfall of civilization. It is hard for me to believe that in this day and age, people actually think that technology and not people are the cause of destruction. I suppose it rests around the argument that no one ever wins--the whole guns don't kill people, people kill people. And then of course people say but if the gun wasn't available....it's an argument you can't win. I'll never ever believe that the internet is the cause of anything evil but rather a tool tht can be used either way. My dissertation argues that the media and framing also factor into the way we view and ultimately use technologies. I am defendng this month and after that, I promise to post it.
